As President, I'm going to make the call to put off our usual business meeting until January. At this December meeting
we have plenty to do — the Potluck, the election, the book sale ...and lets make it a holiday sing and open read (holiday-themed material only!!!). Bring something to read and/or sing!
That means that for January we will have the following things in dire need of discussion:
-- Overview of the activity calendar for the year 2025 (egad, we're a quarter through the century already!), i.e. open reads, book sales, picnic, conferences, national poetry month, speakers, etc...
— DUES. No change in membership cost, but Dec/Jan is when the next year dues are due for most members. ...Of give your checks at the Dec meeting to William Tang and be ahead of the game. Query William or myself if you don't know the time status of your annual contribution. $20/yr or $360 for Life. : )
— Are snacks now too expensive? Prices are up, and more members coming to meetings also means more mouths to accommodate. Should we organize to share the volunteer responsibilities, or go on a collective diet?
— We, the club, have no P.O. mailbox. Do we need one? The smallest at the Mall post office is $222 per year, and we've done without for the last few years. Possible uses are receipt of the annual royalty check (do our other anthologies generate royalties?), as well as flyers and other national/international literature mailings.
-- Who is going to run our after-meeting critique sessions. Is there interest? ...I believe there is.
-- Permanent archive. I put as much club historical data into the anthology as I could, so that we would have something of a record for the future. We, as a club, just had our 26th anniversary, and facts and deeds were fading and becoming a bit muddled. Should we approach our host (the library) to help, in the most feasible minimal way, maintain a club historical archive? Handing things off every year or two to new office holders doesn't give much practical continuity or big picture organizational progression. Should we add the office of club historian? Will anyone care? Any ideas? ...For discussion.
Anyhoo, one month at a time -- and prepare, oh my wordsy amigos, to party!
Please sign up for potluck contributions. Please bring your cheer and literal literary goodwill. Please be at peace with yourself and thoroughly fulfilled by the wonderfulness of your creative endeavors. Please come to the party and be a Riverside Writer friend!
...And if you don't like me and/or my occasionally long-winded writing, please come to the election and do something about it!
